By breaking the fourth wall, she finds a confidante, a therapist, a mirror. Maybe finally someone who acknowledges her existence by calling her by her name? Taking on the role of self-commentator, as if she were an outsider from her own life, simultaneously also functions as an attempt at self-protecting distance. Whispering, wittily, winking, or wildy, she tells the story as she wants to.
